Strange, I thought that Doom 3 had the same axis as Maya...

Anyway, what I would do is import a D3 md5mesh/anim as a reference, so you know how to orient everything.

yea it is strange everything i read tells me Z up , ofcorce maya dosnt have a set axis it can be y up z up and i can rotate my models around so all good

i just really thought it was z up , still everything i read tells me that , also i thought comeing from cod witch is mostly based on doom3 code " just dx rendering " that things would be the same.

anyways ive looked at afew models now and they all seem to be Y up so i guess its sloved ...

oh one other thing the models texture is seethrough , i havent made a meterial def yet just loading the image straght from the md5mesh i'll have ago at that before i post again, if it fails maybe i can attach my model and someone could have a look?

Awesome, now you'll start that snowball of D3 modding! :)

I thought Y up was weird at first until I realized that in math, Y *IS* up, Z would be towards/away from you. Now Z up is weird to me.

:) thanks yea its fun , i caint stop reading / playing with the source code though lol so havent had to much time to check out how weapon models , view models and world models work so i need to do that next

in cod you have a viewmodel for your arms that you set then you have a weapon file that puts the world model, viewmodel sounds and anims together , the arms stay the same . is this the same in doom3 ? or do you have a arm viewmodel for each weapon?

sorry for the noob questions i will get there im just so excited to be playing with a truely open game for once i want todo 20 million things lol xD

Vwep & world view are completely separate. I never did anything for CoD but I know for Quake 2 you have separate vwep & world view models, so I'd imagine they're similar.

The easiest thing (for starters) is to load up an existing D3 model in to your 3D app and see what they did. You can even use their existing skeleton and build your model on that.

In Doom3 the weapon viewmodels contain the arms too. The player/weapon worldmodels are used for third person view, mirror reflections, and dropped weapons.

Load up an animation in Maya, I'm betting the bone rotates somewhere in there. If you're using a stock animation.
