I fail to see why et:qw would be a good engine to use for a doom2 remake

All the AI would have to be written from scratch though. Plus it's in the Quake universe so it would be illegal to turn it in to Doom 2 (isn't there already a Q2 remake in the works?).

Doom 3 has megatexture though. It's been done (but no compression like QW).

ET:QW will have bots. The implementation of MegaTexture in Doom 3 is very basic (diffuse only) and, like you said, no special compression.

and a doom 2 remake would need mega texture for what reason? Doom 3 would work out better, premade AI, if megatexure is needed doom 3 does handle it. besides doom 2 didn't have terrain, it was city based.

Uhhh... I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it's a multiplayer only game, and it will have absolutely no implementation of AI... But is everyone absolutely SURE that AI couldn't be put into Quake Wars for Modification? And by that I mean you couldn't take anything from D3 and put it in Quake Wars??

I'm not a programmer so I wouldn't know this specifically... I don't know how much the Quake Wars engine differ's from Doom 3, after all it's not even out yet.

unofficially... it has bots. It hasn't been publicly announced but all evidence points towards it.

but that doesn't matter, can't do a Doom universe game in Quake & vice versa. Even with all the content limitations out of the box (bots != SP AI. How many SP Q3 mods are there?)

2, outpost and The dark conjunction :) or 3 if you count hunt, which didn't really have a full singleplayer experience as the others did.

no, to early, it's a must the project must be planned out before we work on it, besides BNA! insisted that we get 10 people first. I don't want to rush into a project just to have it fall in.

we'll defenitly get a cutoff of Friday (3/2/7 or 7/3/2 for every on the other side of the world. :) )

we should have a few people, perhaps BNA, Rich & someone else eliminate all the ideas except 2/3, then the "team" votes on the remaining ideas for which one to do.

That would be the most fair way to choose IMHO.

After we get an idea, and hopefully the 10 people, we can vote in a "mod gestapo" who will run the thing. :)

my first thought was "mod nazi" after JC's comment we need an "OGL Nazi" to keep it up to date.

Give me a break... i still can't eat anything but banana's & pudding. I've got steaks in the fridge TEASING ME!!! :)

Geheime Staatspolizei sounds more STASI than Gestapo (DDR vs Third Reich).

It could be something done as an extension to the Doom 3 game so how about a role reversal where you're an Imp battling invading Marines?
