Yet another interviewer fails to ask about MP and SDK :(

I don't see any color banding in the screenshots so they're better looking in that respect.

lol...the interviewer makes fun of willits....

for the ones that don't understand a word of german,...willits says that the flashlight mechanics was only due to performance issues at release time...not a design choice!...and now it's better.....the interviewer makes fun of that...then he says they have improved the game, more ammo, less darkness....lol the interviewer say they ruined the game...
and asks how the fans are reacting ....willits says : well, you wouldn't believe it but... they say we ruined the game !....hahhahah....
you can't please everyone...
then he goes on about how everybody in the team wanted to do this and that...to further improve this "remaster"....but he as studio director had to calm everybody down ..."hey, we are not here to remake the whole game...."....but he says the game looks a bit better and they improved some effects...and of course the 3D thing...

the new levels are completely new stuff, no recycled material from back then....he also says that they changed the enemies placement/spawn...in the whole game...and added more ammo........sounds like a less "survival" Doom 3 to me...

what to say....I will probably buy it once it's 5 or so at the bargain bin...just for the extra levels....

I think it's time ID software recognizes what Doom3World has done for them and gives us free-copies.

Ha, Ha, Ha :) id soft is going to give something for free :) no, I do not think that's an option here. I'm must made You sad, but I think id soft will charge for remastered D3 same price as for new game. Maybe buying all games (D1,2,3&Roe) on steam will be cheaper.
Sure giving new content as free patch to community would be great gesture of friendship after all that mess with Rage and pc support, but I do not think that managers of id soft are smart enough to do this.

Somebody should ask a few simple questions to John/Tim on E3 or after it, just to make stuff clear to us. Did he even play D3 with mods/maps made by fans? What is his opinion about them? Can he name most popular ones? Did he play Sikkmod? Did he know what people do here with this game?

I do not hate id soft for what they do with D3 now, it's wise move to promote this game before D4, but I simple except more and better.

They know of things the major things that get released.

yeah...exactly my feelings I am a huge Doom fan, I can replay those games to death.....but this it is just a let down...for pc users at least....if you think what some individuals here managed to do with the game and engine, and all the good maps and mods...or if you think what a single individual in his free time has managed to do with HL2, I am talking about the cinematic mod....then you would think a full dedicated, professional studio can deliver a little more than "more ammo", autosaves, official widescreen support, 3D support and the duct tape mod...ok there are the new levels…thank god because without them it would have been really a joke…

I really hope they are not going full price for this...

Edit: this is what I would call a HD Remaster...

Everything in the shots looks almost identical to the original game... I read they are going to up polycount etc, but the imp looks as low poly as the old one...

I saw a preorder the other day 13.99 pounds for the pc version - DOOM 3 BFG, the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack, seven new levels entitled 'The Lost Mission.' also includes the original DOOM and DOOM 2 games.

That being said, you can pay a lot more for xbox and ps versions.

What do you mean exactly? Do you have an example shot? Vanilla DOOM 3 shouldn't have any banding if you're using the ARB2 path as the game has no HDR. The only places where banding could occur are in projected shadows if the projected texture is greyscale and the light is projecting a very big volume. Even then, the banding is source art driven, not a rendering artefact.

I'm guessing it's an artifact of the gamma level on my end because the screenshots I take are much darker than in game. It's not worth fussing over.

That banding effect comes from your graphics card texture filtering not the game.
This is what happens when they try to gain some performance and do some (image quality lowering) tricks/optimizations (whatever you will call it) to the anisotropic filter.

edit:
okay some comes from the game too, good explanation:
http://www.doomworld.com/lordflathead/zaldron.html
(dynamic lighting section)

gets worse when both effects add up:

That screenshot shows banding from fog, completely different and unavoidable unless you dither. And that article is old and misinformed. Doom 3 doesn't use floating-point buffers but it does do it's shading with floating-point precision. And you can still have banding when using HDR, the output to you're monitor is still 8-bit integer. My guess is any banding you see that is very noticeable is due to 8-bit int light projection/falloff textures.

hmm..okay, but still getting banding on other (most very darkish) scenes. but it's not an exclusive doom3 "problem" because hardware vendors "optimze" a lot on their texture filters. which may add up onto existing problems. I remember long ago ATI had "tweaked" their filter that only first two mip stages or so get full trilinear filtering. after that you had the typical bilinear filter hard mip transition. or additional sharpening to lower the amount of AF. so when selecting 16x you got only 4x with sharpening which resulted into massive flickering. Or, even worse, Ati Catalyst A.I. removed some shader effects in Unreal Tornament 3 (they reverted this after massive shitstorm).
tl;dr I am not sure if such behavior comes from doom3, the graphics driver or both.

mmh... vanilla D3 I never noticed any banding...nvidia, with proper settings, clamp if 16 aniso is active, texture high qualty and filters off.. etc...

with sikkmod and due to the HDR implementation I had banding, especially in the first test versions...in the latest version though it is much much better, you can tweak the lighting/gamma/HDR setting untill you barely notice any banding really...great job sikk, again !

yep I also spotted the first preorders...around 20 euros....it's a ok price I think...at least they didn't go full price for it...

I think you'll be able to get it for 10 a month or so later...

release 26.10.12...according to wowhd:
