It is very cheeky for me to suggest this as I have made nothing for D3CDIT, but it does appear that alot of stuff has been made for this project. Would the people involved be prepared to start a Public D3CDIT Asset Library by donating textures and models? Maybe it could be the catalyst for other people outside the project to do the same?

If you want, post links to assets in this thread.

I was under the impression that since D3CDIT was a community project that assets used in the project were public domain. At least that's the idea I had when I started the project as I thought that D3CDIT would serve as a good repository for community assets even if that wasn't the primary goal of the project.

Granted, I never drafted up a contract and forced people to sign it prior to submitting anything but I figured it was a gimme.

Anyway, I guess what I could do as a "project lead" is just grant everyone permission to what's included in D3CDIT.

And, how about this? Instead of trying to contact everyone involved and obtain permission, if you don't want people to use your assets, make it known here.

While that's true, I think modern was thinking something along the lines of making an assets only release or something like that, since right now the picking and choosing from billions of posts on the forums is not an easy or fast way to get your assets. Do I understand you correctly? Is that even nessisary when you can just download and unzip the pk3?

Yeah, thats kind of it! I think it could be a good thing if D3CDIT were to start a library of assets collected together in one place like the list of tutorials in Level Editing, and then other people can borrow and hopefully add to it aswell from outside of the project.

It would be alittle like "pimping", but it might work if given a kickstart. Of course, if people are interested in adding to a community asset library it might need a website, but this is a good place to start and see what happens!

Cool site! Yes, thats what I'm thinking of. It would be a great resource if all this content was in one place. So you could go and find new textures, mods, models, new characters, entire buildings!

Personaly, I'm frustrated by the very excellent assets that come with doom because I want to build stuff other than the Mars Base. I am making alot of custom content (particularly urban stuff), but as you know its hard work. If there are people out there with a similar mode of thinking, we could pool our assets outsides the confines of a mod and come up with an Open Library of various themes that benefits anyone who wants to make a map.

EDIT: I want to make clear that I already have a public asset library (link below). I am not looking to put other peoples assets on my site, but I will of course put up my assets here along with anyone elses.

Currently I have a bunch of brick, asphalt, and pavement textures. I am trying to make a collection of high quality assets that work very closely together and absolutley anybody or any mod is welcome to use them in non-commercial projects.
