Anyway... I liked doing Doom/Quake content/news stuff, if anyone knows how to make a site where I could post id-related news, I've got the web space & url.

In saying that, I stopped visiting the planet sites a long time ago because well modding for idtech just aint as common as it used to be.

There is far more work going on at hl2maps and other sites to keep my interest.

D3W is basically the only place that I visit for idtech modding.

Find me a CSS/Java coder and I'll build a place. It would just be a PITA to manually update a ton of pages for news, articles, etc.

Yeah but planetdoom has that whole RSS and syndication thing going on. A newsitem from there pops up on dozens of other sites a day later.

sub-domains not ranked as well as top domain (example.com), why not to use idtechnews.com -> you will get better rankings in g00gl3...
you can make your own website with wordpress, but you will need a host with mysql, if you need a simple news/article script I can send you my "news script" (simple php script, mysql is not required) with admin panel for login & edit

I don't have the $$ to buy another domain and I'm trying to make my domain a kind of brand. I've already done short films with it, so it's known by some people.

I've also noticed that once I do a search for a domain name & it's not used or offered by anyone (so it's cheap), soon it becomes parked & costs more $$. That's why I use fuzzylogicinc vs fuzzylogic. When I first searched for fuzzylogic, it was only $10/year & noone claimed it. A month later when I got the cash it was $1000 to buy & had become parked. Screw that, I added "inc" to the end!

The script you have would be near perfect! My host doesn't have mysql installed (it's a friend who gave me webspace on his server, all the space & bandwidth I want for free, and he has no desire to do anything fancy, so I don't bug him about anything fancy), I tried wordpress once. I don't want to host files but I'd like to be able to let people upload pic's (for pics of the day), submit news (similar to moddb), etc. Just not file hosting, there's places out there that do much better then I could and they have the bandwidth/space to dedicate for that, I'd rather be info.

If your script could be setup to update the latest 5 news stories automatically, update the latest news for each Quake (I'd have that directly below), that would be awesome. But, at this point, I'm not going to be to picky. I love RSS feeds too, I used a couple site RSS feeds for PQ/PD news and I'm sure people used PQ/PD (like Bloodrayne said).

One thing I'd like too is to let others sign in & update news. I hung around this site & tastyspleen a lot and got a decent amount of news from those two places. I *KNOW* there's Q3A/QL news out there but I didn't know about it, someone who wants to update another Quake that I'm not really "in the know" on would be nice. IE different name/passwords, etc.

to let others sign in & update news from your website you will need a webhost with php + mysql, you can buy a cheap hosting from hosting24*com or hostgator, try to make a wordpress self hosted site

my "news" script is storing & reading data from a txt file, user registration & user uploading is impossible with this script, you have a simple admin area to post, edit and delete news, maybe I could set up the script with your template but it would be a lot of work...

In my opinion the best choice is to buy a cheap webhost and go with wordpress (you will find many free themes for wp) + you could make some money with adsense and pay your webhost

Does phpBB board require mysql? I have that installed on my host.

Does your admin required a name/password to log in to? I plan on letting others have access to post news.

I could modify my template so that the news is below the top 5 stories section. Could your script be used in a frame?
