I decided to try something new and did two very simple but free iOS apps. I just thought I'd share for no other reason than sharing...

This I wrote as a website substitute with some fancy calculators for real estate valuation (given you know what you do).
iGrabowski
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/igrabowski/id503780414

And this is a simplified way to convert the age of your pet into human years.
It's not like the world becomes a better place now, but hey - at least now there's an app for that :)
iPetYears
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ipetyears/id512960132

Actually I'm surprised how popular iPetYears is.

So far I can say toying around with Xcode is fun and it's pretty fast and straightforward to launch a small app. I'll continue doing small things whenever I'm stuck on a long distance flight. It's kind of fun to get on an airplane and 12 hours later I have a working product ready to upload, even tho it's a tiny one.

I know there's like half a million and more apps out there, but I'm surprised how much room there still is for new stuff. I'll even go so far to say that a halfway creative person with a basic understanding of coding & design could still make a living out it.
Remember, between total failure and those Instagram-just-sold-for-a-billion is a lot of space to work with.

My pleasure - I knew you were :)
There should be an adjustment for "intellectually inspired computer workers" ;)

That's pretty neat. Also, how does the GUI system for iOS work? I notice apps often use the stock controls/buttons/etc provided by Apple. But you seem to use custom ones or something?

I'm actually getting into Android development. Because I like the platform more and it's free for me to develop for it(no need for a Mac or AppStore account). Just simple test apps at the moment( after screwing around in the IDE for a hour or so I was able to get working Hello World application on my tablet today). Java wasn't as big of a leap from CPP as I thought it would be, pretty straight forward.

Apple gives you a straightforward library of stock items to work with, but you can easily set background images and whatnot to customize the GUI controls.
You can use use the WYSIWYG tool to build the GUIs or you can create everything programatically, or mix it :)

That's nice - don't forget to share here! Always good to see what people are up to.
Mabile device programming is the future anyways...
