Well, just completed the game and I was satisfied; first id game I've completed in years, and it didn't disappoint.

When I played Doom 3 I found the shotgun to be the single best all-round weapon, but then I couldn't use it all of the time. But I made sure I bought more shotgun ammo than any other kind, as this weapon is BRILLIANT! Great sound, good powerful impact, quick repeat fire and doesn't need reloading that much and when it does, is fast. Combined with the EMP shells and especially the explosive shells, can't be beat!

My second favourite weapon was the fatboys for the pistol combined with the monocular, great for headshots for those enemies cowering behind obstacles and firing blindly, even if you have to waste a shot blowing off their helmets first. Great for gory headshots!

The sniper rifle is always useful, but the times it can be used is limited.

The crossbow was fun, especially with firing the explosive bolts at the Jackals and watching them panic before being blow to bits. As for the mind control bolts, I figured, as the title said, that you could control the shot victim to fight their comrades, but it just staggered there for a bit - it wasn't until later I discovered the "detonate" feature! Messy fun.

The grenades were fun, but risky. As for the rocket launcher, I loved it when I felt the enemy needed to hear my viewpoint with great prejudice.

The wingsticks I didn't much care for, they were only moderately useful, but it was tricky throwing them with quick-use.

The giant BFG-style weapon at the end was crap, I thought - you only got it when you went to Capital Prime and it really wasn't much use against the armed mutants.

I really like this game, and even thought I played it on easy in the end, it was a walk in the park. Problem is, I don't want to go through all that driving stuff and running errands again - isn't there a way of selecting the "mission maps"?

Anyway, what were your favourite parts of your arsenal?

You can actually get the BFG before you do Distillery, Gearhead Blue Line, and Authority Vault. Just hold off on those missions until they allow you to pick it up from the resistance. At that point, you can buy BFG rounds from Jani.

It's awesome! It's best in the open areas of the Blue Line, it basically turns the entire room full of enemies into geysers of blood. You can clear the entire level with 5 BFG rounds. It one-shots entire encounters. :D

I never did the Distillery, even though I met the guy who mentioned the plan to me. I was more interested in pleasing that grouchy Redstone guy.

I mentioned the BFG because I remember picking up BFG ammo at Capital Prime all over the place - the weapon the Resistance gave me looked and acted like, if anything, a hyperblaster. Maybe I never got the BFG after all?

I suppose I should go back and do the Distillery mission? Do I have to go to that guy in the room who mentioned it and then the guidance on the road map will guide me to it?

You don't need to speak to him again. Just select the Distillery sidequest as your active quest if you need map guidance (it isn't even that far from Subway Town). btw Keep an eye out for a special secret there. ;)

I play almost exclusively with the pistol and shotty.
Fatboys for most clans and authority.
Fat Mammas for any big guys.

I really do have fun with all the guns 'n ammo. I think a lot of the joy of this game comes from being playful. While I COULD just run through with the shotgun and bandages and just speedrun the whole game, I instead choose to play with different situations. Arcing pop rockets over evemy cover, shooting a mind control bolt into the foot of a Shield Enforcer and blowing up the dudes taking cover behind him, trying to hit 4 dudes with explosive bolts before the first one goes off...

RAGE never does that 'ok you've been captured now try to escape using only 4 mind control bolts'. Lots of people don't like it, but it could be kinda cool to have mission like the Liberty Island in DX- pick a loadout and try to make it through using a predetermined inventory.

@foebane- you did get the BFG- BFG rounds are an ammo type for the authority pulse rifle.

I'm a fan of shotguns, so I use it most frequently in Rage. Then there's the Authority machine gun, which is great against armored enemies, especially with the AV2K ammo. I also use wingsticks a lot - it's pretty fun and often a life saver when, for example, I need to reload my weapon. Pistol with Fatboys is great, too, the crossbow is interesting. The most useless weapon is the AK47, I think.

Yep, now completed Distillery as well. Found a mini-game about strumming a guitar that acts like Simon Says as well.

EDIT: Is the secret the Id Room? I guess I missed it.

What does that mean? Did I have the BFG weapon or not? It didn't act like a BFG, with a big slowly-flying green ball arcing death everywhere it went.

Secondary fire mode is BFG. I never really got to enjoy it either b/c of how I played the game. The final level isn't any fun with BFG it was too slow to shoot.

Having tried it myself just now, I can concur.

Then again, I was pleased to try my new Double Shotty courtesy of the Anarchy Edition patches I got for Steam (when I bought the game from a Game store) and I still beat Capital Prime with it, but I was hurt a lot more by the white armed mutants because reloading was much worse, and I guess the DS only did literally twice the damage. Also, since those mutants move fast, if I missed one of them with my shot, that was TWO shots wasted, so I'm happy to stick with the trusty Shotty I've been used to all the time I've played the game.

I've yet to try the Sewer level, though.

Levels actually - it's more than one, so feel lucky - plenty of places to go!

Crossbow ftw, altho in my opinion it was lacking a proper scope.

I found the crosbow plus dynamite bolts the most amusing. Just the way the ai reacts to it is just funny.

Scopes in games are silly. In HL the crosbow was a sniper weapon so people expect that in the future. Rage had a ridiculous pistol scope. But that is just the way things are set up. I too expected the crossbow to have a better scoping action, but it's accuracy could not be faulted.

Well, technically it was half a pair of binoculars, but it made the pistol very useful as a sniping weapon, especially with fatboys in use. In most FPS games, the pistol is one of the early weapons that gets put by the wayside as the bigger guns get in constant use later on, but not Rage.

The Authority MG enhanced whit the Laser Scope. No more Bullshiting iron sights Aiming.
And the pistol because it reminds me on Halo Combat evolved.
But the Best is you Can fire all weapons from the hip. No Call of duty Targeting, in Rage the Hero can shoot Straight :D
